Thanks for clarifying. I read it as “white chocolate, which is so obviously superior to its more mundane milk chocolate…cousin,” which I completely agree with (not counting the incorrect word “cousin,” and the iffy grammar). However, if you expand that ellipsis out to the word “laden,” it does seem like she’s comparing white chocolate trail mix to milk chocolate trail mix.

I believe she was referring to trail mix with milk chocolate being the cousin of trail mix with white chocolate, not implying that white chocolate is a type of real chocolate. The “batch of trail mix” was the antecedent.

White chocolate may taste better than its darker cousins, but it’s not real chocolate. It’s made with cocoa butter instead of cocoa powder, and a foodie like you should know better than to mix them up.
